First of all, I'd like to take the time to wish all of you a very Happy New Year!  I hope your hunting season was a safe and successful one, and you met whatever goals you set for yourself in the woods.  Reflecting back on my year, I had a fantastic shed season, finding a gorgeous 160-class 6x5 typical set of antlers and several other great sheds.  I killed two does and a really old buck, which was a major goal of mine.  On top of all that, I just had a ton of fun being in the woods and spending time with mother nature.  So for me, the year was very satisfying. Now that 2013 is upon us, I have more goals to meet; I want to have a stellar shed season, not so much in numbers, but I hope to find some big sheds and a few unique ones as well.  I really want to find a particular set, I'll post another blog about that later .... I really want my daughter to shoot her first deer ever, and it's been a long, long time since my wife has tagged on a buck.  So my goals this year revolve around quality family time, seeing my loved ones tag out, and also to find a few great sheds.  I guess more than anything, I want to continue to enjoy time spent with God's gifts and being a respectful steward to the outdoors. What are your goals for 2013??  Let's hear them, bloggers!!!

By now I'm sure all of you deer hunters are chomping at the bit to get into a treestand. Trust me, I've only made it out once, and boy am I ready!  During this time of year, I really tend to stay out of my best spots and just hunt field edges, but on special occassion, I will sneak in and hunt some of my stands close to where I believe my shooter bucks are living.  We just happen to be having one of those special occassions in the next couple days.  We are going to see a major drop in temperatures.  Wednesday was a high in the mid 80's and yesterday a high of 60 and now today a high in the mid 40s.  Nothing gets the deer on there feet in Oct better then a drastic drop in temperatures.

Now is the time of year when most of us are getting things around for season.  Some of you probably make checklists while others just grab things and go!  I try and keep everything organized throughout the year but still seem to be missing stuff I need when season rolls back around!  I try and keep a checklist of my stuff to help me keep organized and to make sure everything makes it into my pack.

The time has come.  Finally.  Velvet is beginning to strip off, and thoughts of my beloved whitetails are running through my mind like never before.  Somewhere....somewhere out there, is the buck I'm going to shoot this year - what will he look like?  I guess we'll find out in the upcoming months!  What can we expect now?  What will the deer be doing when season opens?  Let's investigate and find out!

Bowhunting is life for me.  I don't say that to sound cliche, but it's something that's absolute truth.  Any of my friends will tell you the same thing, as I take my hunting as seriously as my family and job.  I am convinced one of the biggest factors in becoming a successful hunter, especially with big game species, is managing your scent.  Countless articles have been written over the subject, but this one is different; this article deals specifically in the relationship between the clothing you put on your body during your hunting outings and the scent that gets absorbed into these clothes.
